Suggesting a New You is possible is not just a trite statement. Every seven years the body has completely rebuilt itself. A New You is in process right now. What that re-engineered version of you looks like, depends on factors that may surprise you and yours truly is here to remind you what these may be.

Factor 1:
Don’t exercise! If you don’t, you will enjoy time on the couch binge watching Netflix. It’s nice there. You can eat junk food, stretch out, turn off your brain and over time, develop a layer of jiggly Jell-O designed perfectly to keep you warm, even sweaty.

The trouble with that scenario is, you pay a price. It’s a steep one. The cost is so high, it eclipses that of your living expenses, car, clothing, most precious diamonds, even your kids and loved ones. Ready for it? You pay with your health and in some cases, your life.

Statistics, if you are so inclined and love numbers, show a black and white reality that is hard to ignore .

More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese. [Read abstract Journal of American Medicine (JAMA)]
Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death. [Read guidelines]
The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008 U.S. dollars; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight. [Read summary]
Unfortunately some of us are more prone to being overweight or obese.

Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age-adjusted rates of obesity (47.8%) followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non-Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non-Hispanic Asians (10.8%)
Obesity is higher among middle age adults, 40-59 years old (39.5%) than among younger adults, age 20-39 (30.3%) or adults over 60 or above (35.4%) adults.

Factor 2:
Exercise alone won’t help you lose weight, according to Cell Press.
A recent Cell Press journal Current Biology explains that “our bodies adapt to higher activity levels, so that people don’t necessarily burn extra calories even if they exercise more.” I just heard every treadmill in North America hit the brakes. Whaat?

But you already know this. The plateau hits around week 3 and whatever physical activity you have been doing is no longer yielding results. The solution? VitaMix your workouts – mix it up. Vary the ingredients and blend up new moves for best results. Keep it interesting. The workouts I have created in Fitness Commitment and FitBoost do just that. And I have included special moves that target your biggest, fat “burningest” muscle groups for best results.

I love sobering reads like these as much as I love getting a speeding ticket. That is to say, not very much. But the solution is as simple as your next meal, workout and clicking a button or two on my website. Virtually every answer to building a stronger, leaner you lies on your plate and how you move your body. Since I love to provide practical solutions to keep you fit and well nourished, why not trust that my programs – Fitness Commitment and FitBoost – are your answers?
